If you think about it, hitting better is something the players are already trying their best to do, just like pitchers are trying to throw better strikes. While the words may be well-intentioned, they could have a negative impact. For one, it adds more pressure on younger players to perfect their batting which again, may have good intentions but will likely cause the player stress. This may result in negative thoughts and the player may no longer enjoy playing the game.
Instead of telling players to hit better, consider a different approach. Make sure to point out when the team does actions that contribute pisitively, such as several hard hit outs. Focusing on the positive reinforces and drives better performance. With better performance, you can concentrate on improving areas (i.e.: batting) while keeping morale among the players high.
