Being Selective With Competitive Baseball Games

With children, teaching them the proper techniques and encouraging teamwork are important. Instead of encouraging them to see who can catch the most balls without dropping them, focusing on the details that can make them better competitors. To provide an analogy of sorts, if you placed a group against each other to see who can hammer more slats in to create a treehouse, the result will be sloppy as the competitors focus more on getting the most slats versus ensuring that the slats are spaced evenly or parallel, for that matter.

There is certainly tremendous value in competitive practice. Before starting a game, however, consider evaluating whether the game will serve as a way of reinforcing or replacing the skills taught to the young players.
